Sahana was founded and is lead by the FOSS R&D Non Profit Organization, Lanka Software Foundation who has awarded 5 full-time fellowships to FOSS developers in Sri Lanka with SIDA for Sahana Phase II(see below). There are also 8 interns from the University of Colombo and University of Moratuwa working on the project.

    The IBM foundation has provided "unconditional" funds for 2006-2007 for use on Sahana, which we will use to sustain upto 2-3 fellowships and some of the Sahana operational costs for a year. The Donation was provided through the IBM Foundation with the support of the IBM Crisis Response Team

    The US National Science Foundation is providing support to 3 LSF Fellows for 2006-2007 to address research issues in data exchange, interoperability and GIS data integration. The grant was coordinated by the University of Maryland under Prof. Louiqa Raschid

    Donated 9 T60 Laptops to the Sahana development team. The Donation was provided through the IBM Foundation with the support of the IBM Crisis Response Team
  4. Google
    Sponsored 8 Summer of Code Projects on Sahana
  5. Xtrata Coal, Australia
    donated 8 E500 laptops. The donation was coordinated by Don Cameron, an employee of Xtrata Coal

    Personally donated 2 OLPCs (One Laptop Per Child) to Sahana in memory of his mother and her parents

2006 Sponsorships and Donations

    provided funds develop phase II of Sahana for 1 year from September 2005 to August 2006 through LSF to sustain 6 LSF fellowships and operational costs. The SIDA proposal was coordinated by Dr Sanjiva Weerawarana, Jivaka Weeratunga and Chamindra de Silva

    Donated a High end server and laptops for the deployment of Sahana in Sri Lanka during the Tsunami and also sponsored a Sahana workshop in New York. The Donation was provided through the IBM Foundation with the support of the IBM Crisis Response Team

  4. New Zealand Recreational GPS Society Inc.

Phase I (Asian Tsunami) Sponsorships and Donations
Phase I of Sahana was heavily support by the Sri Lankan IT industry and included organizations such as Virtusa, JKCS, hSenid, Eurocenter, WS02 and endorsed by the Sri Lankan ICT Agency. The Tsunami response was coordinated by the Lanka Software Foundation under the leadership of Dr Sanjiva Weerawarana.
